Placing a firm grasp on the National Guard Birthday cake are (at left) Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Van Pelt, New York State Command Sergeant Major and (at far right) Command Chief Master Sgt. Hardy Pierce, senior enlisted non-commissioned officer of the New York Air National Guard.

Cutting the cake are Maj. Gen. Joseph J. Taluto, New York State Adjutant General and Pvt. Ashley Corsi, Company E, 3rd Battalion, 142nd Aviation Regiment. The difference in General to Private rank symbolizes the current and future leadership in the National Guard.
