HORSEHEADS-- Soldiers of the New York Army National Guard's 827th Engineer company stand at attention on Feb. 21, as the 89th New York Guard Band performs the National Anthem.
The band performed at the 827th's deployment ceremony held at the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center in Big Flats, NY.
Staff Sgt. Theodore Albright, Master Sgt. Jeffrey Mancuso and Staff Sgt. Norma Billings of Headquarters Co., 204th Engineer Battalion, stand at attention as NY Guard Sgt. Joseph Baldanza, Spec. Marianne Zic and the 89th NY Guard Band play with Capt Douglas Hedwig conducting.
The 827th Engineer Company specializes in building and repairing roads, and are mobilizing for deployment to Afghanistan. The 89th NY Guard Band performs at military ceremonies throughout the state, and has been called upon to augment the NY National Guard's 42nd Infantry Division Band. The New York Guard is a state-only volunteer force which assists and augments the New York National Guard.
