U.S. Army Pfc. Dandy Beverly uses a jack hammer to break through reinforced cement April 16 at Joint Base Maguire-Dix-Lakehurst under the guidance of New Jersey Task Force One urban search and rescue instructor Bob McDermott. Beverly and fellow New York Army National Guard Soldiers from Company A, 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion conducted breaching and breaking training using heavy concrete drills, chain saws, jack hammers and torches to better prepare for urban search and rescue. The engineers, based in Lockport, New York, are part of the National Guard Homeland Response Force that supports the Federal Emergency Management Agency Region II.
