The NYS Battle Flag Collection includes two silk, swallowtail guidons attributed to Battery A, 3rd Artillery (Light), NY Volunteers. Each guidon, in the “stars and stripes” pattern as prescribed in General Order No. 4, dated January 18, 1862, includes 34 painted stars in the canton in an elliptical pattern with 10 stars in the inner oval, 20 stars in the outer oval, and one star in each of the canton's four corners.
