The NYS Battle Flag Collection includes one flag attributed to Battery D, 3rd Artillery (Light), NY Volunteers, a silk swallowtail guidon in the “stars and stripes” pattern as prescribed in General Order No. 4, dated January 18, 1862. The flag includes 34 painted stars in the canton in an oval pattern with 10 stars in the inner oval, 20 stars in the outer oval, and one star in each of the canton's four corners. (2004.0047)
