12th Cavalry Flank Marker

The NYS Battle Flag Collection includes one flank marker attributed to the 12th Regiment Cavalry, NY Volunteers. Approximately 30% is missing mainly from the center, the fly, and the fringe. The flag features painted inscriptions in gold, shadowed in red, along the top and bottom, and a red painted shield in the center framed with a gold painted border. The shield includes, in part, the regiment’s numeric designation in gold shadowed in crimson. “N.Y.S.V.” and “CAVALRY.” are in mirror image on the reverse while the numeric designation reads left to right on the reverse.(2008.0006)

See the 12th Cavlary History Page for more information about this unit.
