By special order from the War Department, dated June 23, 1865, the 13th Regiment Cavalry, NYV and the 16th Regiment Cavalry, NYV consolidated to form the 3rd Regiment Provisional Cavalry, NYV. This blue silk presentation flag from the City of New York includes the Arms of the State of New York painted on the obverse and the Arms of the City of New York painted on the reverse. The painted presentation inscription on the lower ribbon, "Presented by the City of New York.", appears on both sides reading left to right.(2006.0139)
