When the 6th Cavalry’s three-year muster expired in late 1864, the regiment continued in service as a “Veteran Volunteers.” This blue silk presentation flag dates to the unit’s service as veterans as indicated by the “N.Y.S.V.V.” in the upper-most ribbon.
