Known as the “Orange Blossoms” in honor of Orange County,
the 124th Regiment was mustered into service in September 1862 with
the 71st Regiment, State Militia as its nucleus. A month before, Miss
Charlotte Coulter, representing the citizenry of Wawayanda, presented
these silk general guide flags to the regiment at a formal ceremony
