The New York State Battleflag Collection includes two general guide flags carried by the 144th Regiment NY Volunteer Infantry. Both flags, in the US National pattern, have significant losses particularly the flag on the right. The regiment's numeric designation in script is embroidered as well as the state affiliation, "N.Y.S.V." Conservators decided not to remove the staff from the flag on the left because removal would cause more damage to the fragile silk.
