186th Infantry Flag

The NYS Battle Flag Collection includes one national color carried by the 186th Regiment NY Volunteer Infantry. Red, white and blue silk fabric was pieced together to create the flag. The canton includes 34 painted stars in five horizontal rows. One star from the center row is completely missing, while most of the rest are damaged from abrasion to the top gold-paint layer. A flag restorer added the netting and zig-zag stitching on this flag in 1971. (1995.3703)
