61st New York Volunteer Infantry National Color

Reportedly first unfurled in October 1864 at Fort McGilvery near Petersburg, Virginia, this national color accompanied the 61st New York Volunteers during the Siege of Petersburg, June 15, 1864-April 2, 1865, and during the climatic Appomattox Campaign, March 28-April 9, 1865. Four men from the color guard are believed to have received wounds, two mortally, during the campaigns. (2008.0108)
