The NYS Battle Flag Collection includes two flank markers carried by the 8th Regiment NY Volunteer Infantry. Both flags feature painted inscriptions in gold, shadowed in red, along the top and bottom and a red painted oval shield edged with a gold painted border in the center with the regiment's numeric designation painted in gold with shadow effects. The inscriptions along the top and bottom are in mirror image on the reverse while the numeric designation reads left to right on the reverse. The ties are not original to the flag. The above measurements exclude the ties.
