5th Battalion of Artillery (Heavy) History Received its numerical designation: September 16, 1862 This battalion, four companies, A, B, C and D, was organized at Sackett's Harbor; received its numerical designation September 16, 1862; was ordered to the front September 17, 1862, and served near Washington, D. C. December 31, 1862, it was discontinued and its companies transferred to the 10th Artillery as Companies A, G, C and F, respectively.
