Received its numerical designation: September 16, 1862
Disbanded: December 31, 1862. Men transferred to the 5th regiment of artillery.

This battalion was organized at Sackett's Harbor; received its numerical designation September 16, 1862; was ordered in the field September 17, 1862. It served near Washington, D. C, was discontinued December 31, 1862, its companies A, B, C and D, assigned to the 5th Artillery as Companies I, K, L and M, respectively.
