2nd Provisional Regiment of Cavalry History By the orders of the War Department, dated June 17, 1865, this organization was formed, by the consolidation of the 6th [Regiment] and 15th Regiments of Cavalry, and Col. Charles L. Fitzhugh, of the 6th Cavalry, assigned to its command. Companies A, B, C, D, E, I, L and M were formed of the 6th, and F, G, H, and K of the 15th Cavalry. Commanded by Lieut.-Col. Harrison White, the regiment was honorably discharged and mustered out, August 9, 1865 at Louisville, Ky., having lost by death of disease and other causes twelve enlisted men.
