J. H. Hobart Ward was 37 when he enrolled on May 25, 1861 at New York city to
serve two years. He mustered in as a Colonel on June 8, 1862. He mustered out
on October 10, 1862 for promotion to brigadier-general in command of the 1st
Battalion, 1st Division of the 3rd Corps.
