Captain James Gowdy Back to 56th Regiment During the Civil War James Gowdy: Age, 22 years. Enrolled November 1st, 1861 at Montgomery. Mustered into Company C as a sergeant November 16th, 1861 for a three-year tour of duty. Re-enlisted as a veteran February 14th, 1864 and promoted to sergeant major January 1st, 1865. Mustered in as a captain May 15th, 1865 and discharged June 15th, 1865. Back to 56th Regiment During the Civil War
