Cpt. William A. Collins Back to 61st Regiment During the Civil War
William A. Collins: Age, 22 years. Enrolled October 3rd 1861 at New York City. Mustered into Company H as a sergeant October 5th, 1861 for a three-year tour of duty. Promoted to first sergeant October 10th, 1862 and second lieutenant Company F March 15th, 1863. Promoted to captain January 26th, 1864 and killed in action May 8th, 1864 at Corbin Bridge VA.
