Covil A. Woods [sic], Company E, 62nd NY:
Age at Death, 19- Entered Service 1861 - Regt at Time of Death, Anderson Zouaves - Date of Death, May 5, 1864 [Battle of the Wilderness]- Place of Death, at the Rapidan - Cause of Death, Killed in Battle – Place of Burial, unknown. – Remarks, He was supposed to be buried on the field.
Woods was one of four Crown Point men who enlisted in the 62nd in May 1861; the others were:
- Sidney H. Carter [in records as “Harry Carter”] Son of Jeremiah B. & Rachel Carter
- Jackson W[illard] Smith , Son of Benjamin F. & Mary Jane Smith
- Curtis D. Wells.
NB: Apparently no history of the 62nd NY written, but there is one of the 93rd Pennsylvania Vols , which was brigaded with the 62nd NY & mentions it frequently:
Mark, Penrose G. : Red White and Blue Badge; Pennsylvania Veteran Volunteers. A History of the 93rd Regiment, Known as the Lebanon Infantry... Harrisburg, 1911.
