The Civil War Letters Of
Charles Harvey Hayden
Patriot & Hero
97th New York Volunteer Infantry
Donated and transcribed By Al Grenning

Camp Near Washington
July 6th 1862
Dear Sister

I take this opportunity to let you know that I am alive and my health is rather better that when I wrote you last. I have been under two cannonadings and in one battle and still my life is preserved.

Write soon from your brother
Charles H. Hayden

These first appeared in the Boonville Herald and Adirondack Tourist, Boonville, New York in 2005. They are posted here with permission.
