History
FIFTH BATTERY, LIGHT ARTILLERY.

In accordance with the second call for troops of the President, and the instructions received from the secretary of war, this battery was, July 15, 1898, ordered to be recruited in New York city.

Recruiting commenced July 18th, and the battery was organized at the armory of the first battery, national guard, New York city, where it was mustered in July 27, 1898, after which it proceeded to Camp Black, Hempstead Plains, N. Y.

August 26th, the battery went on a. practice march of 17 miles.

September 15th, the battery returned to the armory of the first battery, national guard, New York city, under orders of the war department; the officers to receive leaves of absence and the enlisted men furloughs for thirty days, after which the battery was to be mustered out, which event took place, October 24, 1898.

Captain: Theodore P. Schmidt, July 15, to October 24, 1898.
First Lieutenant: Alfred W. Dingleman, July 15, to October 24, 1898.
Second Lieutenant: Bernard A. Remold, July 30, to October 24, 1898.
