A tank man lies deep in the water reaching to the treads of his tank to release
the coral stones preventing the tank from climbing out of a bomb crater. This
hole was eventually filled and corduroyed with palm logs before the rest of the
tank column proceeded. Butaritari Island, Makin Atoll. 165th Inf.
