SARATOGA SPRINGS-- New York State Military Museum Director Michael Aikey speaks to fifth graders from the Abraham Wing Elementary School in Glens Falls while a TV film crew looks on during the student’s May 23 visit to the museum here. Aikey talked to the students, and reporters, about Col. Elmer Ellsworth, the first Union officer killed in the Civil War,a Mechanicsville native, and a friend of Abraham Lincoln’s, who death was a major event after he was shot on May 24, 1861. The museum is the owner of the coat Ellsworth was wearing when he was killed; seen in the display case here.
