Color, letter & number codes for
AGR, Tech and NY State jobs

Most of this material applies equally to both AGR and Technician jobs.

"Nationwide" or "CAT 2" openings (for which applications will be accepted from individuals outside the specified force and/or from outside New York) are highlighted with a gray bar in the job listing tables. The word "Nationwide" or "CAT 2" does NOT specify the service in which the candidate would serve. You may deduce whether the opening is Army or Air from the "MOS" and "Grade" columns.

Openings listed in blue bars are (usually) open only to NY Air National Guard members and openings in white bars are (usually) NY Army National Guard openings. HOWEVER, please read specific announcements carefully for possible exceptions or variations to this color coding, which is provided as a convenience ONLY and NOT as authoritative guidance.

Announcement numbers are assigned by using a 2-digit FY, a hyphen, and a sequence number, which is issued in the order the job openings are received. NOTE: that means closing dates do NOT necessarily fall in the same order as the sequence numbers. The "ANNO #" (leftmost) column contains a hyperlink to the announcement document. In addition to the color coding, those listings have letter codes:

  • A leading (before the numbers) "T" indicates a Technician job; an entry begining with "T" and with no trailing "A" indicates an Army Guard technician position while a trailing "A" means the position is an Air Guard position.
  • Similarly, a leading "A" indicates an AGR job and a trailing "A" on AGR listings means Air Guard while the lack of a trailing "A" usually means the position is an Army Guard position.
  • Job listings which have been AMENDED or corrected since originally posted will have a note in red.
  • Job openings CANCELLED after posting will appear in a bar with a “Job Cancelled” layer on top.
  • State civilian positions are listed with a leading "S".
