Col. Paul Sausville, a Ballston Spa resident, retires from New York Army National Guard

LATHAM, NY (04/30/2015)(readMedia)-- New York Army National Guard Col. Paul Sausville, an Iraq War veteran whose last assignment was a Judge Advocate General for the New York National Guard, has retired after a 27-year career in the Active Army and Army National Guard.

Sausville, a Ballston Spa resident, joined the Army in 1985 after earning his commission through the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps program at Siena College. He earned a law degree from Albany Law School in 1988 and went on active duty as a member of the of Army's Judge Advocate General's Corps.

His assignments on active duty included defense counsel and Chief of Military Justice at Fort Eustis, Virginia; Post Judge Advocate at Fort Greely, Alaska; and Litigation Attorney, for the U.S. Army Litigation Division.

After joining the New York Army National Guard he served as a full-time Active Guard and Reserve Officer. In 2004/2005 he mobilized with the 42nd Infantry Division and served as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for Task Force Liberty-a 23,000 member force in north central Iraq-in Tikrit.

He is a graduate of the Army War College, Command and General Staff College, Judge Advocate Basic and Advanced Courses, Army Airborne School and Army Air Assault School.

His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal, several awards, Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge. He has been nominated for the Legion of Merit.

He and his wife Donna have four children: Corinne, Erin, Madeline and Jack.

Sausville is taking a job with the Department of Energy at Knowles Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna
