Scotia Based Airmen clean up Freeman's Bridge Road as part of Adopt-A-Highway for Air National Guard

STRATTON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, SCOTIA, N.Y. (06/05/2015)(readMedia)-- New York Air National Guard Airmen from the 109th Airlift Wing will be out cleaning up the roadside of Freeman's Bridge Road between Nott St. and Maple Avenue on Sunday, June 7, as part of the Adopt-A-Highway Program.

WHAT: Adopt-A-Highway cleanup effort

WHEN: 1 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2015

WHERE: Freeman's Bridge Road, between Nott St. and Maple Ave. Members will be meeting on Nott St. in the parking area between Erie Blvd and Maxon Rd.

Media Opportunity:

Media personnel are invited to take imagery of Airmen cleaning up Freeman's Bridge Road as well as speak with the president of the 109th Airlift Wing's First Six Council (the junior enlisted council of the Wing) along with other Airmen in attendance.

Background:

 

The First Six Council represents the junior enlisted of the 109th Airlfit Wing at Stratton Air National Guard Base. The council began supporting Adopt-A-Highway in 2014.

 

According to its website, the Department of Transportation's Adopt-A-Highway Program was formalized in 1990 to "encourage individuals or groups to clean up highway roadsides and to recognize those volunteers who do. Participation in the program also fosters a sense of community ownership of the roadway as well as a sense of pride in the appearance."
