Queensbury resident Matthew Starr accepted into Army Warrant Officer program

LATHAM, NY (08/31/2015)(readMedia)-- Queensbury resident Matthew Starr, a member of the New York Army National Guard, has been accepted in the Army's Warrant Officer program.

Prior to becoming a Warrant Officer Candidate Starr was a Sgt. 1st Class serving as the senior human resources sergeant responsible for monitoring the New York Army National Guard's active duty personnel.

Warrant Officers are specialists in technical, intelligence, and personnel fields who are issued "warrants" for their ranks instead of the "commissions" presented to officers in the rank of lieutenant on up.

Starr, age 37, has served in the Active Army and the Army National Guard for 15 years. He joined the New York Army National Guard in 2003, where he served as a member of the Joint Border Coordination Center in Spin Boldak.

Starr originally served as a fire support specialist in the 82nd Airborne Division and eventually served in the headquarters of 18th Airborne Corps.

His assignments in the New York Army National Guard have included serving as Joint Force Headquarters Career Counselor and Enlisted Aid to the Adjutant General of New York.

Starr holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He also attended Florida State University.

His awards include the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the NATO Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.

He and his wife Jenny, have four children, Ethan (age 10), Maya (age 7), Jack (age 4), and Gywneth(age 1).
