Edwin Mondezie, a Queens resident, retires from New York Air National Guard

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY (09/16/2015)(readMedia)-- Edwin Mondezie, a Queens resident, and an Iraq War veteran, has retired after a 24 year career.

Mondezie, a New York City Police officer, was assigned to the Logistics and Readiness Squadron of the 106th Rescue Wing at F.S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base here.

Mondezie had also been serving as the senior enlisted advisor for the New York National Guard's Joint Task Force Empire Shield, the security force of Army and Air National Guard members who augment law enforcement security in

the train stations and airports.

Mondezie began his military service in the active Air Force in 1991. After serving in Korea and at McGuire Air Force Base he joined the 106th Rescue Wing in 1995. He has served in a number of positions with the 106th Rescue

Wing, most recently as the Human Resources Advisor for the 106th Logistics Readiness Squadron.

In 2008 he took a leave of absence from the New York City Police Department to serve as a full-time National Guard member with Joint Task Force Empire Shield, first as a company first sergeant and finally as the senior enlisted

leader of the 200+ member force.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed

Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.

He has moved to Trinidad and Tobago where he is the director of operations for a private security firm.

He has three children: Patrice, Erykah, and Tishana.
