Robert Morisseau, an Albany resident, promoted to Chief Petty Officer in the New York Naval Militia

LATHAM, NY (10/26/2015)(readMedia)-- Robert A. Morisseau, an Albany resident, has been promoted to Chief Petty Officer in the New York Naval Militia.

The New York Naval Militia is the naval component of New York's Military Forces which also includes the New York Army and Air National Guard.

Most of the 2,900 members of the Naval Militia are serving members of the Navy and Marine Corps Reserve who also agree to serve as members of the state force when called by the governor. They provide skills to the state ranging from boat handlers to construction experts.The Naval Militia also operates a fleet of nine patrol boats in the Military Emergency Boat Service.

A small number of Naval Reserve members, like Morisseau, are retired from the Navy or Marine Corps and serve as state volunteers.

Morisseau, an Albany native who graduated from Albany High School in 1978 joined the Navy in 1979 and retired after 20 years of active duty military service. He has been a member of the New York Naval Militia since 2001 and serves as a member of the Naval Militia personnel action team and as a small boat crewman.

His military awards include the New York State Humane Service Medal, the Josephthal Award for outstanding service in the Naval Militia, and the Military Commendation Medal.

Morisseau works as a computer technician for Albany County and is also Albany County Commander of the American Legion.
