New York Army National Guard Recruiters team up with local BOCES for an Anti-Bullying Event

SARATOGA, N.Y. (10/17/2016)(readMedia)-- Members of the New York Army National Guard will team up with BOCES to conduct a program countering bullying on Tuesday, October, 18 at the F. Donald Myers Education Center, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Members of the press are invited to the event.

WHO: Several Soldiers from Recruiting and Retention Battalion, Watervliet, N.Y.

WHAT: Soldiers will teach students at an Anti-Bullying event.

WHERE: F. Donald Myers Education Center, located at 15 Henning Rd., Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

WHEN: Tuesday, October 18 at 12 p.m.

Background:

Recruiting and Retention Battalion:

Headquartered at the Watervliet Armory outside Albany, the Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion is comprised of about 260 noncommissioned officers and officers who are responsible for filling the ranks of the 10,300-member New York Army National Guard.

Each year about 2,000 Soldiers retire or leave the National Guard when their enlistments expire.

The recruiting and retention team is responsible for finding the excellent citizen-Soldiers needed to fill the force so that the National Guard can respond to domestic emergencies here at home at the direction of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo or serve overseas in support of federal missions when called upon.

HEAR Program:

The H·E·A·R program was created to help reduce bullying and promote safer learning environments. Career Training Concepts (CTC) collaborated with nationally renowned subject matter experts at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to create the program, a high quality, 50 minute anti-bullying presentation for high school students.
