Two NY Army National Guard Soldiers to Compete in National Guard Best Warrior competition July 23-27

LATHAM, NY (07/20/2018) (readMedia)-- Two New York Army National Guard Soldiers will be representing the northeast at the Army National Guard's Best Warrior Competition which begins July 23 at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania.

Specialist Ilya Titov and Sgt. Quentin Davis, both members of the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment and both New York City residents, will compete against 12 other Soldiers from across the United States to be the best in the 340,000-member Army National Guard.

Titov will compete against junior enlisted Soldiers in the ranks of private to specialist, while Davis will compete against other sergeants.

The two men were tops in those category in the northeast regional competition held in May.

Titov is an infantryman and lives in Rockaway Park. Davis is a signal support systems specialist and an Astoria, Queens resident. Titov is a traditional part-time National Guard Soldier while Davis works full-time for the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry.

The event tests the Soldiers' physical fitness, military knowledge, marksmanship, and command of military skills like donning a gas mask or treating a casualty.

The culmination of the event will be a 12-mile forced march across the historic battlefield at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Soldiers will begin the event in Gettysburg itself and carry 35-pound packs and weapons through historic locations like Little Round Top, Devil's Den and Cemetery Ridge.

The winner of the National Guard competition will go on to compete against winners of competitions held by the Army Reserve and the Active Army.
