Latham-based NY Army National Guard Soldiers return from Kuwait deployment

LATHAM, NY (08/12/2019) (readMedia)-- Eight New York Army National Guard Soldiers based in Latham, N.Y., who are trained to fly and support the Army's C-12 passenger and cargo transport aircraft, have returned home following a nine-month deployment to Kuwait.

The Soldiers, who are members of Detachment 5, Company C of the 2nd Battalion 245th Aviation regiment, returned to the Albany International Airport on Saturday, August 10 from Fort Bliss, Texas.

The Soldiers operate the military version of the Beechcraft Super King Air turboprop plane. The aircraft can carry as many as 13 people or high value cargo.

The detachment, based at the National Guard's Army Aviation Support Facility at the Albany International Airport, normally flies commanders and key personnel throughout the United States.

The Soldiers left New York in November 2018. Their mission in Kuwait was to transport key personnel and critical cargo throughout the region.

During their deployment, the unit flew 1,356 hours throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, which covers most of the Middle East including Afghanistan and Iraq.
