Hedwig has served as the commander of the New York Guard Band, joining after the 9/11 attacks, and provided advice to Villanueva on organizing a Maryland state guard band. Villanueva provided the New Yorker with Maryland Defense Force patches as a token of esteemUnder Hedwigs leadership the New York Guard band has performed in parades and at public events, as well as for veterans. 		<description>&lt;img src=&quot;http://dmna.state.ny.us/home/images/thumbnails_small/thumb100_1337263220--DSC_7328.jpg&quot; /&gt; FORT HAMILTON-- At an early morning formation on Thursday, May 17,  members of Joint Task Empire Shield Bravo Company look on as Joint Task Force Empire Shield Commander LTC Peter Riley and Joint Forces HQ State Chaplain CH (COL) Eric Olsen coined 2LT Zadell-Scafe -369th HHC , SFC Esquilin -369th HHC (both from Bravo Company JTF-ES) and SSGT Quiroga 106 RQW Air National Guard (Charlie Company JTF-ES) for their excellence, and being selected to be interviewed to by the Center of Army Profession and Ethicss (CAPE). The film crew from CAPE filmed the coining presentation, Service members on post, and interviewed the services about their experience in receiving APET (Army Profession and Ethics training) while on Joint task Force Empire Shield. The three service members coined were selected from among 58 who were APET certified on the Task Force</description>

The competition pits top non-commissioned officers and junior enlisted Soldiers from New England, New York and New Jersey against each other to determine who will represent the region in a national competition. The Soldiers were tested on military knowledge, physical fitness, marksmanship, land navigation, and Soldier tasks.</description>
