Camp Smith School turns out Infantrymen

CAMP SMITH--U.S. Army Spc. Michael Labonte a resident of Smithfield R.I. assigned to Company C 1st Battalion (Airborne) 143rd Infantry Regiment in cover before after a mock assault during infantry reclassification course 18-002 final field training exercise which lasted 48 hours at Camp Smith Training Site Cortlandt Manor N.Y. Aug. 13 2018. The 106th Regional Training Institute conducted the infantry course from August 3-21 2018 and adapted the training curriculum to meet the new infantry standards.

Infantry Training conducted at Camp Smith

CAMP SMITH--Army National Guard Soldiers from throughout the Northeast exit an CH-47 Chinook helicopter assigned to the New York Army National Guards Company B 3rd Battalion 126th Aviation during infantry reclassification training at Camp Smith Training Site on August 13 2018. The 106th Regional Training Institute conducted the infantry course from August 3-21 2018 and adapted the training curriculum to meet the new infantry standards.

Soldiers Battle for Combatives Honors

CAMP SMITH, N.Y. -- New York Army National Guard Soldiers compete in the New York Army National Guard's first Combatives Tournament, held here July 27. Over a dozen New York Army National Guard troops took part in the tournament, which was organized by the New York Army National Guard's 106th Regional Training Institute. Winners may have an opportunity to represent New York State in the All Army National Guard Combatives Tournament to be held at Ft. Benning, Ga. in 2014.

Change of Command for 106th RTI

CAMP SMITH-- New York Army National Guard Col.Michel Natali accepts the colors of the 106th Regional Training Institute from Brig. Gen. Paul Genereaux during change-of-command ceremonies here Sunday. Natali took over command of the training unit from Col. Mark Warnecke who is retiring after more than 35 years in the Army and Army National Guard. Warnecke will continue to serve in his civilian job as director of Camp Smith.

Soldiers Learn Hand-to-Hand Combat from Experts

CAMP SMITH TRAINING SITE-- New York Army National Guard Spec Casey Monahan, a member of A Troop 2nd Squadron 101st Cavalry, grapples with Isac Chavez, a Brown Belt Assistant Instructor at the Cutting Edge Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu School, during the Army Basic Combatives course held here on October 27. Chavez is the 2010 no Gi Pan-American Champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and was brought in as a guest instructor for the course. 12 Soldiers from across the New York Army National Guard attended the train-the-trainer course conducted by the 106th Regional Training Insitute. These Soldiers will go back to their home units to pass along the combat survival skills they learned.

Paul Genereux, Deputy Commander of the New York Army National Guard, recognizes a 106th Regional Training Institute Soldier during the unit's Freedom Salute Ceremony, Saturday, May 2. The 106th RTI Soldiers served in Afghanistan as part of Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix, training the Afghan Army and Police.
