LATHAM--Family and friends of Soldiers of the 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation wave as Soldiers depart for Fort Hood, Texas aboard UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters following a farewell ceremony on June 9, 2022. The Soldiers will be training at Fort Hood as they prepare to deploy to Kuwait later this summer. A similar farewell ceremony was also held at the flight facility in Ronkonkoma on June 9.

RONKONKOMA--Members of the New York Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation Regiment secure a new UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter after it arrived at their flight facility in Ronkonkoma N.Y. August 18 2020. The UH-60M is the most current version of the Black Hawk helicopter and offers many improvements including more efficient rotor blades glass cockpit improved engines and flight controls and aircraft navigation.

ROUND LAKE --A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter prepares to conduct water bucket training in Round Lake N.Y. April 17 2019. The collapsible buckets which are hung underneath the helicopters can dump 560 gallons of water on a fire each time they are used. Each spring Army National Guard helicopter crew members and maintenance personnel retrain on how to attach the buckets to Black Hawk helicopters and then practice picking up water and dumping it.

LATHAM--Five UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters from the 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation leave Army Aviation Support Facility #3 in Latham heading for the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California. Another five aircraft were flying west from Ronkonkoma as well. The aircraft and 70 aircrew will participate in an exercise being conducted by the 256th IBCT.

ALTONA--New York Army National Guard Soldiers assigned to 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation Division deliver 660 gallons of water onto a forest fire in Flat Rock State Forest in Altona, N.Y. on Friday, July 13 2018. Two UH-60 aircrews responded to a fire that broke out in Altona N.Y. and spread across 500 acres over the July 13-15 period. The aviators also flew a mission in support of fire fighters on Sunday, July 15.

PUERTO RICO--Soldiers of the New York Army National Guards 3rd Battalion and the 442nd Military Police Company conduct an aid mission in Ciales Puerto Rico on Oct. 11 2017. Five Soldiers from 442 MP Company provided security while UH-60s conducted three trips with five pallets of water and six pallets of MREs.The battalion deployed 60 Soldiers and four UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters to Puerto Rico to conduct relief missions in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- New York Army National Guard aviators of the 3rd Battalion, 142nd Aviation sling-load a trailer of water, known as a water buffalo, to the New York Army National Guard's 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team here on May 20. The aviators delivered the water buffalo to a supply area maintained by the brigade's 427th Brigade Support Battalion (BSB). About 3,000 brigade troops trained here from May 19 to 22 to rehearse for their exercise at the Army's Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Fort Polk, Louisiana in July. The 3rd Battalion, 142nd Aviation is part of the New York Army National Guard's 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade.

CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait-- A Soldier from the 3rd Battalion 142nd Assault Helicopter Battalion engages targets with a 240B machine gun during gunnery training here on June 3. COLONIE--A UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter of the New York Army National Guard’s 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation in Latham conducts a training run with the Firehawk fire fighting system over the Mohawk River on August 4. The unit practices water bucket and Firehawk operations annually in case they are need to support the civil authorities with fighting wild fires. The Firehawk allows the air crew to siphon 1000 gallons of water in about one minute and deliver it to the scene of a fire. The crew can control the rate of release based on the firefighters needs.

Since 2004 the Arsenal team has produced more than 15,000 gunner protective kits and 6,000 overhead protection kits. The Arsenal has ended production of those kits as the Army switches to new types of armored vehicles.

Dargue, who has more than 21,000 hours flight time in military and civilian helicopters, will be honored by his unit. Dargue is an expert at flying in New York City's congested airspace.

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Spc. Roberto R. Wells, a member of the 3-142 Assault Helicopter Battalion, takes his oath of U.S. citizenship during a naturalization ceremony at Al-Faw Palace March 3. The naturalization ceremony was the final step for 251 Servicemembers to become citizens of the United States. Wells is a native of Trinidad and Tobago and has served in the New York Army National Guard for the past three years. BAGHDAD--New York Army National Guard Pfc. Steven P. Fitzgerald and his fiancé¥ and fellow Guard member Spc. Viviana B. Molina, of the 3-142nd Assault Helicopter Battalion, review intelligence reports before a briefing in Iraq. Fitzgerald, is an 18-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department, and joined the National Guard when he was 41 years old. The battalion, which has units on Long Island and in the Albany area, deployed to Iraq in August.

Approximately 40 pilots and crew-members bid final farewells to family and were rendered salutes by other aviation Soldiers. The 142nd Aviation will train-up at Fort Sill for about two months before leaving for Iraq.

Michael Bobeck, the New York Army National Guard's State Aviation Officer, is interviewed by television reporter Riccardo Romani for a segment that aired on Sky TG24, an Italian cable news station. Bobeck's interview was part of a month-long series the network is doing called America 2008. Romani and his crew are traveling across the United States to share stories about America during the primary season. His goal, Romani said, is to let Italians know about typical Americans. The Italian TV crew visited Army Aviation Flight Support Facility Three in Latham on Jan. 10 and 11 to film Bobeck's interview, as well as members of 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation training for their deployment to Iraq in June. Romani said he wanted to include the New York National Guard in the story because it's part of the fabric of American and because the National Guard has played such an important role in America's military since 9/11. Bobeck discussed his service in Iraq, the National Guard's response to Hurricane Katrina, and how the National Guard has changed since the Cold War.
