SCOTIA-- Airmen from the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing prepare to launch an LC-130H "Skibird" heading for Antarctica at Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia, New York on October 17, 2024. The wing launched two aircraft with ten Airmen on the five day flight to Christchurch, New Zealand on the 17th and three aircraft and aircrew the day before. Five LC-130s and 400 Airmen will support the National Science Foundation Antarctic research mission from now until Februar, 2025. more

WESTHAMPTON BEACH--The first HH-60W " Jolly Green II" search and rescue helicopter assigned to the New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing based at Francis S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach, flies over the north shore of Long Island, on August 4, 2024. Airmen from the 106th rested the upgraded functions of the aircraft over land and water during the wings historic first HH-60W flight. Named after the HH-3 "Jolly Green Giant" helicopters once flown by the wing, the new aircraft has greater range and electronics systems than the HH-60 Pave Hawk.

Wilfred Spike Mailloux, a 100-year old veteran of the New York National Guards 27th Infantry Division who fought on the Island of Saipan during World War II, at St. Michaels Cemetery in Waterford, New York on May 7, 2024. Mailloux, a member of B Company, 105th Infantry Regiment, was wounded during a massive Japanese Army banzai attack against the regiment on July 17, 1944. Mailloux, who enlisted in the National Guard to earn $5 per drill, was the last surviving member of the Cohoes-based company. more

ALBANY-- New York National Guard Soldiers assigned to the 42nd Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade, along with the family and friends of Chief Warrant Officers 2 John Grassia III and Casey Frankoski, fill the Empire State Convention Center in Albany during a unit memorial ceremony honoring the two pilots held on April 21, 2024. Grassia and Frankoski were killed when their UH-72 Lakota helicopter crashed during a March 8 mission along the Texas border. A Border Patrol officer on board the helicopter was also killed. more

NIAGARA FALLS --New York National Guard Soldiers and Airmen from the 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry Regiment and 107th Attack Wing witness the beginning stages of the total solar eclipse covering the region on April 8 2024 at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station in Niagara Falls New York.. The Soldiers and Airmen were on duty to support local officials if required. Over 150 service members across New York State were activated to potentially support civil emergency services due to the huge increase in tourism generated by the event. more

CAMP BUEHRING,Kuwait-- New York Army National Guard SPC Junhee Choi, a member of the 101 Expeditionary Signal Battalion, prepares for the individual weapons qualification using the Engagement Skills Trainer 2000 during the 160th Theater Signal Brigade Best Squad competition at Camp Arifjan Kuwait. Between March 18 and 24, the competitors went through a rigorous gauntlet of tasks and events including the Army combat fitness test individual weapons qualification timed 12-mile ruck march land navigation and a review board to determine the best squad in the brigade. The 101st mission is to provide tactical communications throughout the United States Central Command Area of Operations. The unit is currently spread out across nine countries within the middle east. more

ARCTIC OCEAN (March 9 2024)-- A C-130 Hercules assigned to the 109th Airlift Wing part of the New York Air National Guard flies over East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare Operator (SEALs) Norwegian Naval Special Operations Commandos and the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Hampton (SSN 767) during an integration exercise designed to bolster skills in an Arctic environment March 9 2024 as part of Arctic Edge 24. AE 24 provided Special Operations Command North the opportunity to test a range of capabilities and response options to deter disrupt degrade and deny competitor activity in the Arctic in support of globally integrated layered defense and deterrence of the homeland. more

Mario Scaduto in Yonkers New York on Dec. 16 2023 accompanied by members of the Stewart Air National Guard Base Fire Department. Scaduto had served in the 105th Civil Engineering Squadron. He was one of over 1900 veterans honored by the New York Air National Guard in 2023. more
