25 Apr, 2025Hitler's Hat on display at NY Military Museum SARATOGA SPRINGS--The New York State Military Museum unveiled a new temporary exhibit for the display of Hitlers Hat once worn by the Reich Chancellor prior to the Second World War. The hat and other artifacts were presented by the family of World War II veteran Richard Marowitz who was present at the Dachau liberation with the 42nd Infantry Division and secured the Nazi clothing memorabilia the following day during his units capture of Munich on April 30 1945. more less

18 Apr, 2025109th Airlift Wing begins Greenland support season GREENLAND --An Airmen assigned to the 109th Airlift Wing participates in a training mission at Raven Camp Greenland in 2021. Raven Camp is used to train members on landing on ice runways polar airdrops and operating in the snow and ice conditions. The 109th operates in Greenland from April through August each year to complete resupply missions for the National Science Foundation . more less

07 Apr, 2025EMT certificates awarded at Fort Hamilton FORT HAMILTON-A New York Guard volunteer, and a New York Army National Guard Soldier receive Emergency Medical Technician training certificates during a ceremony conducted at U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn. One hundred and fifty members of the New York Army and Air National Guard, the New York Naval Militia and the New York Guard took the EMT recertification course in February at Fort Hamilton. The training renewed the certificates they had earned during the COVID-19 pandemic when the state arranged to train over 300 members of New York's Military Forces so they could work in nursing facilities. more less

The regiment has led the parade since 1851. Microvanes are 3D printed devices that when installed on the rear of a C-17 reduce both drag and fuel consumption by one percent, saving the Air Force money and enhancing mission capability. more less

10 Mar, 2025NY Air Guardsmen operate from frozen Canadian lake NORTHWEST TERRITORIES, Canada-- An LC-130 Hercules "Sjibird" assigned to the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing retrieves cargo from a camp on Parsons Lake in Canada's Northwest Territories on March 5, 2024. A team from the 109th were airlanded onto the lake by Royal Canadian Air Force aircrew and proceeded to build an ice runway for the LC-130s on the frozen lake. This is the first time the wing has constructed a "skiway" on frozen fresh water. In the past they have built skiways on sea ice. The LC-130s flown by the 109th Airlift Wing are the largest tactical aircraft in the world with the ability to land on snow and ice using skis. more less
09 Mar, 2025Air Guardsmen fight Long Island fire WESTHAMPTON BEACH -- New York Air National Guard firefighters assigned to the 106th Rescue Wing deployed along the Sunrise Highway on Saturday March 8, 2025 as they fight the Pine Barren Fire which erupted that afternoon as high winds swept across Long Island. Airmen were evacuated from nearby F.S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base, while one of the wing's HH-60W Jolly Green II search and rescue helicopters flew 28 water bucket firefighting missions, dropping 660 gallons of water each time. Eventually, three UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters from the Army Guard's 3rd Battalion, 142nd Assault Helicopter Battalion, were also deployed against the massive fire. more less

William Gourlay, the commander of the 107th Attack Wing's mission support group lays a wreath from the White House at the grave of President Millard Fillmore on Tuesday, Jan. 7 2025 in Buffalo NY. The wreath-laying tradition first began during the Johnson administration in 1967 and has been faithfully carried out by military members on behalf of the Office of the President on the deceased birthday ever since.
