The purpose of the HEAT is to train soldiers in the proper procedures to egress from an inverted HMMWV. Conducting such training under controlled conditions will allow vehicle occupants to gain experience in the proper egress procedures. This type of training is necessary for soldiers to achieve self-control and overcome natural fear and panic following the catastrophic event when a vehicle becomes inverted in a combat or training mission.
