1st Artillery (Light), Battery I, NY Volunteers Guidon, Civil War

1st Artillery, Battery I Marker

The NYS Battle Flag Collection also includes a silk, swallowtail guidon carried by Battery I, 1st Artillery (Light), NY Volunteers. In the “stars and stripes” pattern prescribed in General Order No. 4, dated January 18, 1862, the flag includes only 31 gold painted stars in the canton from most likely a 35 star pattern. One star is missing from the upper fly corner and three from the outer circle. Flag dimensions are: 29 1/2” hoist X 40” fly. (2004.75)

See Battery I for the 1st Artillery for more information about this unit.
