New York National Guard At Niagara County Fair

LOCKPORT, NY (08/01/2010)-- Reporters looking for a different kind of story at the Niagara County Fair are invited to stop by the New York Army National Guard Recruiting tent at the fairgrounds. Soldiers will be on hand to talk to the public about the National Guard and visitors will be able to inspect an armored humvee like those used in Iraq and Afghanistan and try their skill for prizes at a football toss game. WHO: New York Army National Guard Recruiters. WHAT: Army National Guard Recruiting display at the Niagara County Fair. The recruiting station will have an armored humvee on hand for the public to inspect and there will be a chance for visitors to try their skill at getting a football on target for a chance to win prizes. WHEN: Daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., August 4 to August 8. WHERE: The center of the Fairway at the Niagara County Fairgrounds, 4487 Lake Avenue, Lockport. Background: The New York Army National Guard, with a membership of about 10,500 Soldiers is currently at 100 percent strength. National Guard Recruiters, though, are continually seeking new Soldiers to fill job and education opportunities available in units across the state. Throughout the summer months New York Army National Guard recruiters will be manning booths at country fairs to let the public and potential Soldiers know more about the force.
