New Commander for Auburn Army National Guard Unit

Lt. Col. Athur Zegers IV Takes Command of 102nd Military Police Battalion

AUBURN, NY (11/03/2010)-- Lt. Col. Arthur Zegers IV, a veteran of combat operations in Iraq, is the new commander of the New York Army National Guard’s, Auburn-based, 102nd Military Police Battalion. Zegers, a resident of the Albany-area who began his military career as an enlisted Soldier in 1982, took over from Lt. Col. Martin Dinan during a Change of Command ceremony held Oct. 17 at the New York State Armory here. In 2005 Zegers served in Iraq as a member of Military Transition Team assigned to mentor officers of the 4th Iraqi Army. The 102nd Military Police Battalion is the higher headquarters of five Military Police Companies; the 102 Headquarters and Headquarters Military Police Detachment in Auburn, the 206th Military Police Company in Latham; the 222nd Military Police Company in Rochester; the 105th Military Police Company in Buffalo; and the 107th Military Police Company in Utica. Two of those companies, the 105th and 107th, are slated to deploy overseas in 2011. Zegers, who works full-time for the United States Property and Finance Office --New York, as an auditor, was previously assigned as the operations officer for the 153rd Troop Command. After serving three years as an enlisted Soldier, Zegers earned an Associates Degree in Administration Management from SUNY Morrisville, and Bachelors degree in Business Management from Ithaca College, while he served in the New York Army National Guard. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1991 through the New York Army National Guard’s Officer Candidate School. He has served as an engineer company platoon leader, an engineer company executive officer, an engineer company commander and an operations officer at the battalion and brigade level. During his service with the New York Army National Guard’s 204th Engineer Battalion, Zegers to 15 state emergencies, including the North Country Ice Storm in 1998 and the Sept. 11 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in 2001. Zegers military awards include the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon. He is a graduate of Engineer Officer Basic Course, the Engineer Officer Advanced Course, Military Police Officer Transition Course, the Command Services and Support School, and the Army Command and General Staff College.
