South Glens Falls Resident Tammy Mandwelle Promoted to Colonel in New York Army National Guard

SYRCAUSE, NY (08/23/2012)(readMedia)-- South Glens Falls Resident Tammy Mandwelle, a teacher at South Glens Falls Senior High School, has been promoted to Colonel in the New York Army National Guard. Mandwelle, a veteran of the Iraq War, is currently on leave from her job serving as Rear Detachment Commander for the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, which is headquartered in Syracuse. About 1,700 of the brigade’s Soldiers are currently deployed in Afghanistan and Kuwait. Mandwelle earned her commission as a Chemical Corps Officer through Army ROTC after graduating in 1984. She joined the New York Army National Guard in 1986, transferred to the Medical Service Corps and served as platoon leader in the 646th Medical Company. She served as the 646th Medical Company commander before transferring to the 42nd Infantry Division as a nuclear, biological and chemical plans officer. She served as the Division Chemical Officer for the 42nd Infantry Division in Tikrit, Iraq in 2005. She ran the division’s Joint Visitors Bureau and also served as Secretary to the General Staff for the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Mosul, Iraq. She served as the Comptroller for the 42nd Infantry Division before assuming command of the 2nd Battalion 106th Regional Training Institute, a training battalion headquartered at Camp Smith Training Site near Peekskill. Her son Jordan Mandwelle is a Junior at Syracuse University and is enrolled in the Army ROTC program there
