NY National Guard to Airlift Additional Refuel Trucks to NYC

LATHAM, NY (11/05/2012)(readMedia)-- Members of the New York National Guard will airlift two additional fueler trucks this evening as part of the National Guard’s support mission to the City of New York. A C-17 cargo plane from the New York Air National Guard’s 105th Airlift Wing will again load two Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) fuelers to transport them to JFK Airport for follow-on delivery to the National Guard’s logistics base at Floyd Bennett Field in the city. This will bring four total tank trucks to the National Guard’s logistics site. The tanker trucks were modified to pump unleaded fuel in support of the vehicle needs of New York CIty emergency response vehicles. The military vehicles normally contain and dispense diesel fuel. WHAT: Arrival and loadup of a New York Air National Guard C-17 cargo aircraft with Army National Guard refueling trucks. WHO: Members of the New York Army and Air National Guard called to state duty for Governor Cuomo’s state response to the recovery from subtropical storm Sandy. WHERE: Army Aviation Support Facility, 330 Old Niskayuna Road, Latham NY WHEN: Approx. 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5 for arrival of the aircraft at 6 p.m.. The flight facility is at the far end of the National Guard headquarters facility in Latham. Background: Governor Andrew Cuomo mobilized more than 3,300 members of the New York National Guard for the response to Sandy. Soldiers and Airmen of the New York Army and Air National Guard are on duty on Long Island and New York City to provide emergency managers with resources such as general purpose forces, military vehicles and logistics support. With additional National Guard forces arriving from other states, there are more than 4,000 troops now supporting recovery efforts in NYC, LI and the lower Hudson Valley. The HEMTT carries 2,500 gallons of fuel and is able to pump directly from the vehicle.
