New York City Army National Guard Finance Soldiers Mobilize for Afghanistan Deployment
JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. (05/27/2014)-- Twenty-five New York Army National Guard Soldiers from New York City ,assigned to the 37th Finance Detachment, have gone on federal active duty here as they prepare to deploy to Afghanistan.
The Soldiers, based at the Lexington Avenue Armory in Manhattan, will be conducting post-mobilization training at the base before deploying to Afghanistan in about 30 days. The detachment is part of the New York Army National Guard's 27th Finance Company. The Soldiers just finished two weeks of training at Fort Drum, N.Y. to prepare for their deployment.
A finance detachment helps Soldiers resolve military pay issues, disburses funds to pay contractors or to finance civic aid projects, and maintains financial information for Army units in their area.
The unit will hold a farewell ceremonies for families at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst on June 7.
The detachment deployed to Iraq for ten months in 2009 and 2010. In 2003 The 37th Finance Detachment mobilized for two years and conducted finance operations at Fort Drum, N.Y. and Fort Dix, N.J.
