Specialist David Tinker,a member of the New York Army National Guard from Herkimer,New York, checks the oil level of a humvee during morning preventative maintenance checks and services at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Patriot at Fort Bragg , North Carolina. Tinker and other members of the 27th Brigade Combat Team are conducting post-mobilization training at Fort Bragg prior to deploying to Afghanistan in April. The unit arrived at Fort Bragg on January 20 and is participating in “Theater Immersion Training” in which soldiers live on a FOB similar to the one they will be based at in Afghanistan. Soldiers wear body armor and carry weapons routinely. The training day begins at 5:30 in the morning and runs until 8 p.m.
