Motorcycle Safety Courses for NYARNG Riders

Free Basic Rider and Experienced Rider motorcycle safety courses offered to Soldiers

1. Make sure you follow the General Motorcycle safety Checklist.
2. Soldier-cyclists may find the Motorcycle/Rider Inspection Checklist helpful.

New York Army National Guard soldiers are eligible to take one or more motorcycle safety courses.
The course is FREE of charge. All current and potential riders are encouraged to enroll. To register, call:

Additional Information:

1. Registrant must bring license with motorcycle endorsement or permit, PPE to include DOT helmet, full-fingered gloves, over the ankle boots, eye protection, jean pants, and a long sleeve shirt or jacket. Please remember to bring wet weather gear (rain jacket & pants) you will ride rain or shine.
   **No Ponchos**
2. Class size is limited to 12 per class and schedule is subject to change, based on number of individuals registered.
3. Motorcycles will be provided for the course.

Basic Rider Course (BRC)

2 days, 16 hours - 8:00 am to 5:30 pm - Must have motorcycle permit

Experienced Rider Course (ERC)

Even if you've been riding for some time, there's always something new to learn. Increasing numbers of seasoned riders are flocking to the eight hour Experienced Rider Course to hone there skills and fine-tune the mental skills needed for survival in traffic.

You'll discuss with your peers how to balance the mental and physical aspects of safe riding, manage risk, increase visibility and optimize your lane position. The Experienced Rider Course also covers protective gear, rider responsibility, motorcycle inspection and care, and the effects of alcohol and other drugs on riding.

Using your own motorcycle, you'll put into practice the techniques of managing traction, stopping quickly, cornering, swerving and limited space maneuvers.

Prerequisites:

• Valid motorcycle license
• 120 Hours of riding time
• Good condition-street legal motorcycle
• Registration
• Insurance
• Proper riding gear

Classes held rain or shine.

1 day, 8 hours - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm - Must have motorcycle license

Motorcycle Safety Course - Fort Drum

The Fort Drum Safety Office offers on-site motorcycle training courses throughout the summer. These courses will be held at the Fort Drum Command Safety Office.

Motorcycles will not be provided for the course.

Additional Information:

1. Riders must wear the following safety equipment:
   • DOT approved helmet
   • Eye protection (or full face helmet)
   • Full fingered gloves
   • Long-legged trousers
   • Long sleeved shirt or jacket
   • Over the ankle shoes or boots
   • High visibility reflective garment or device (PT belt is acceptable)
2. Those attending the BRC with permits will either have to trailer their bike to and from the course or be accompanied by a licensed rider IAW NYS law.

Motorcycle Safety Course - Niagara Falls

The Niagara Falls Safety Office is sponsoring on-site motorcycle training courses throughout the summer. These courses will be held at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.

Motorcycles will not be provided for the course.

1. Riders must wear the following safety equipment: DOT approved helmet, Eye protection (or full face helmet), Full fingered gloves, Long-legged trousers, Long sleeved shirt or jacket, Over the ankle shoes or boots, and High visibility reflective garment or device (PT belt is acceptable)
