Overview

As an Army Chaplain you will be responsible for the care and spiritual well-being of your Soldiers during peace and wartime missions. Regardless of a Soldiers religious background, Chaplains minister to their spiritual wellness and are available to help them through a variety of personal and professional issues. Chaplains are noncombatants and do not carry a weapon.

Job Duties

  • Oversee religious ministries, including workshops, counseling, religious education and special events
  • Officiating at worship services, funerals, memorials and other military functions
  • Providing religious ministry to foreign military personnel and civilians

Am I eligible?

  • An official ecclesiastical endorsement from your denomination or faith group
  • Be an ordained minister
  • Be qualified spiritually, morally, intellectually and emotionally
  • Possess a Baccalaureate degree of not less than 120 semester hours
  • Possess an accredited MDIV or Master's level that has 72+ semester hours in one degree
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be able to receive a security clearance
  • Pass a physical exam
  • Be between 21 and 45 years of age - prior service may be granted a waiver up to 47

Overview

You do not need to wait until your ordination to join the Army National Guard Chaplaincy. You have the opportunity to begin your service in the Army Chaplain Corps while continuing your training for your ministry. The training and experience you will receive as a chaplain candidate will add a special dimension to your seminary education. Additionally, some seminaries offer academic credit for your training as a Chaplain Candidate.

Job Duties

  • Assist with religious ministries, including workshops, religious education and special events
  • Assisting with worship services, funerals, memorials and other military functions

Am I Eligible?

  • Obtain an ecclesiastical approval from your denomination or faith group
  • Enroll or accepted at an approved seminary
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Full-time student working toward a graduate degree in theology consisting of 72 or more hours
  • Pass military entrance physical
  • Meet the Army height/weight standards
  • Eligible for secret security clearance
  • Less than 40 years of age at commissioning (waivers with prior military service)
