WATERVLIET--New York Air National Guard Master Sgt Josh Spegnola, a member of the 2nd Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team stands in protective gear on the Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet N.Y. Aug. 2 2023 during an exercise. Spegnola and the CST were participating in a training exercise where they had to clear a house reported to have hazardous materials. The Watervliet Arsenal is the only cannon manufacturing plant in the United States.

STRATTON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Scotia- Lt. Col. Drew Pinckney receives the guidon of the New York National Guard's 2nd Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team (CST) during change-of-command ceremonies here on Monday, June 9. Pinckney took over from Lt. Col. Tom Benton, who has commanded the team since 2011. Benton will be moving to Florida to take command of one of Florida's two CSTs.

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. - New York Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Salvatore Cautela and Sgt. Michael Gerardi check for hazordous materials as they move through a building during lane two of a Joint Collective Training Excercise between the New York national Guard's 2nd Civil Support Team, (CST) and the 15th CST, Vermont National Guard. The two day excercise held in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom brought together the New York and Vermont Civil Support Teams as well as two augmentees from Rhode Island and members of the St. Johnsbury Fire Department. Civil Support Teams are trained to assist civilian first responders by identifying the presence of chemical, biological, or radiological hazards in the event of an attack, explosion or fire.

A member of the New York National Guard's 2nd Civil Support Team “clears a footprint” for his team during a Defense Support to Civil Authorities Response Exercise which kicked off Friday November 2, 2007. Clearing a footprint consists of identifying and sanitizing an area of chemical, biological and radiological contamination. This footprint is being cleared in preparation for the second phase of the exerecise in which the state's CERF-P team performs mass decontamination and casualty extraction exercises. CERF-P stands for Chemical, Biological,Radiological,Nuclear or High Yield Explosive Enhanced Response Force Package. The exercise was held at the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control's Urban Search and Rescue Training Center outside Albany.
