ROCHESTER -- General Daniel Hokanson the Chief of the National Guard Bureau pays tribute to three New York Army National Guard aviators who died in a UH-60 crash outside Rochester on January 20 2021 during a memorial service honoring them held on Friday Feb. 26 at the Army Aviation Support Facility at Greater Rochester International Airport. The service conducted by the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade recognized Chief Warrant Officer 5 Steven Skoda Chief Warrant Officer 4 Christian Koch and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Daniel Prial.

ROCKY POINT, N.C.--Army Staff Sgt. Charles Gabriel, a member of the New York Army National Guard's Company C, 1st Battalion 171st General Support Aviation Battalion, works with members of the FEMA Seach and Rescue Task Force 6 and the Greensboro, North Carolina Fire Department to rescue a 78-year old man from the roof of his house in Rocky Point, North Carolina on Sept. 18, 2018. The man was hoisted up to a hovering UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter in a Stokes basket. The New York Army National Guard deployed ten Soldiers and two UH-60 helicopters from Company C 1-171st GSAB to assist in the Hurricane Florence response.

FORT DRUM, N.Y. --The New York Army National Guard's 642d Aviation Support Battalion’s Company F, 1-169th Air Ambulance conduct Water Bucket training here July 17. Flight crews from the 1-169th flew from Wheeler Sack Airfield to Indian Lake in the Adirondacks to qualify in water bucket operations. With empty water buckets in tow, the flight crews flew filled them with 440 gallons of water and transported them prearranged drop site. In the event of a state or national emergency the unit is trained and qualified to respond and execute water bucket operations.

FORT HOOD, Texas-- Black Hawk helicopter crew members of Company F, 1-169th General Support Aviation Battalion (Air Ambulance), an Army National Guard unit with Soldiers from Missouri, New York, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, prepare to medically evacuate a simulated casualty from the Army Reserve’s 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command out of Los Angeles during training conducted by Division West’s 479th Field Artillery and 166th Aviation Brigades at Fort Hood, Texas, Nov. 2. The Reserve and National Guard units are training with Division West before deploying to Afghanistan.

ROCHESTER-- Family members of 43 Soldiers assigned to F Co. 1-169 General Support Aviation Battalion watch as the unit's UH-60 Blackhawks make their final fly over on their way to Ft. Hood, Texas on Saturday, Sept. 29. The Soldiers, who fly medical evacuation helicopters, will train at Fort Hood before deploying to Afghanistan.The unit conducted a farewell ceremony on Sept. 28.

The two Soldiers are crew chiefs with the 249th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) based in Rochester which was conducting survival training at Mount Morris Dam, a facility owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Soldiers taking part in the exercise boiled and ate the snake.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – More than fifteen minutes of fame came to Sgt. Stephen Tschiderer, 249th Air Ambulance Company, as he is interviewed by Frank Grimes, a contract video producer for The History Channel June 27. Tschiderer, who served as a medic with E Troop, 101st Cavalry under the 256th Brigade Combat Team, Louisiana Army National Guard, was deployed in 2004-2005 to Iraq. While deployed, he was shot by a sniper from a van. The sniper videotaped the attack and was surprised by Tschiderer when his protective body armor stopped the bullet resulting in Tschiderer and other members of Troop A pursuing and capturing the sniper and his accomplices. The interview will be part of The History Channel’s “Shock Wave” series and is expected to air sometime in the Fall.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Chief Warrant Officer James "Jim" Hall answers questions about the UH-1V Helicopter during the Seventh Annual Rochester Wings event on Saturday June 14. Hall is a pilot with the 249th Medical Company, (Air Ambulance). "Hosting this event is fun and it's a great way to get the word out about the National Guard" said Hall. Attendees were able to view vintage and military aircraft, talk to pilots and crew members and even climb inside the planes and helicopters. Free plane rides were available to children through the Young Eagle Program as well as seminars on a variety of aviation related topics. The Army National Guard partnered with Monroe County, the Greater Rochester International Airport, The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) to sponsor this event.
