NY Engineers work in Hawaii

The IRT is a joint service program that provides real-world training opportunities for the U.S. militarys Reserves and National Guard service members to prepare them for wartime missions while supporting the needs of Americas underserved communities.

Engineer Soldiers Deploy to Texas

CAMP SMITH-- Soldiers of the New York Army National Guard's 1156th Engineer Company, participate in a deplolyment before leaving for their mobilization training on Oct. 15, 2016, at Camp Smith Training Site in Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. The 1156th Engineers will conduct several weeks of mobilization training at Fort Hood, Texas before deploying later this year to the Middle East in support of U.S Army operations against ISIS.

Han was picked at best junior enlisted Soldier in the New York Army National Guard during the New York Best Warrior Competition in April.

Engineers Finish Fire Tower Project

BEACON-- Soldiers of the 1156th Engineer Company put the finishing touches on the the restored Beacon Fire Tower on top of Beacon Mountain. The company constructed a reproduction ranger cabin next to the tower and put some finishing touches on the fire tower, which they restored in 2012 during annual training.

Engineers Convert Erie Canal Lock to Public Park

COHOES, N.Y. --New York Army National Guard Soldiers of the 1156th Engineer Company stand behind their final project here, a replica engineer castle, as part of their final efforts in a community project here June 13 to restore a former Erie Canal lock into a public park. The Soldiers provided a week-long effort as part of their annual training each year since 2011 to remove debris from the abandoned lock, overgrown since 1911. The City of Cohoes partnered with the Guard engineers to remove the debris, install drainage and develop a walking path as part of the lock’s conversion to a public site. U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Guard Engineers Refurbish Mount Beacon Fire Tower

BEACON, NY -- Staff Sgt. Marco Padilla and Spc Osse Jean-Pierre, Soldiers assigned to the 1156th Engineer Company, New York Army National Guard, repair and replace railings on the Mount Beacon fire observation tower, September 7, 2012. The 1156th has stayed busy over the last year providing both military and community support ranging from aid to civilian authories during Tropical Storm Irene and Tropical Storm Lee to cleaning up the old Erie Canal.

LAKE PLACID-- New York Army National Guard Sgt. Nick Cunningham, a member of the United States Bobsled Team and the 1156th Engineer Company, sets off on a run during competition here February, 17-19. Cunningham placed ninth in the two-man sled races out of 29 sleds and finished at the number 13 spot in the four-man sled race. Cunningham, a member of the Army National Guard for two years was on the last Winter Olympics Team and is expected to compete in the next Winter Olympics.

Engineers Train For Search and Rescue

CAMP SMITH TRAINING SITE, CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. -- Members of the New York Army National Guard’s 1156th Engineer Company, wearing red helmets, use a jackhammer to penetrate concrete debris as part of their search and extraction training. The troops practiced horizontal breaching techniques during training for the National Guard CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or High Explosive) Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP). Trainers for the exercise (in blue and yellow headgear) are from the current CERFP Search and Extraction Team, engineers from Company A, 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion. Guard Soldiers Reach Over the Horizon

First Class James Bach, an engineer with the 1156th Engineer Company, New York Army National Guard works to finish a picnic table for the children of St. Mary?s orphanage in the town of Tacarigua, Trinidad as part of Operation Beyond the Horizon 2008; a joint nation, joint service humanitarian mission composed of elements from the Army, Army National Guard and Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Navy Seabees and Marines April 28, 2008. The engineers are also building a school and a medical clinic for the children of the orphanage.
